Faster sort

I know there was a alternate faster sorting algorithem on the site.

Can anybody tell me where it is.

Frankly, I don't remember anything about faster search. Long time ago there was a forum topic and documentation example about 'stable' sort algorithm but that was even before 1.0.1

Any idea how we can implement client side paging in version 2.

My problem is I have to display 1000 rows having 28 columns.

And the sort operation takes around 25 seconds.

Also I can not use the virtual mode as it is unacceptable to the users.
