updating a grid

If you have a pre-existing activewidgets grid in place, and you want to update the cell text, which has changed the number of rows, but kept constant the number of columns, how would be the best way to do that?
can you just form a new javascript array for the celltext, then set the cell text, and refresh, or do you have to do a obj.write again and include the same header? Thanks
