Automatic Row Selection - Lost

Hello all, I'm currently using version 2.5.2 and I'm using the data-xml basic.htm example. I want to automatically select a row (i.e. 1st row) and I have went through all of the support forum with no success. I would image that it is a simple thing, but using the above example, I cannot get the row selected and highlighted. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
