Controlling External Grid Size

There is probably an obvious answer to this, but I'm new at this grid control and I'm banging my head against the wall... Is there a way to control the height and or width of the rendered grid in pixels? I'm placing the grid into a frame, and it automatically consumes the entire frame's width and hwight. I need to leave some space on the top for ome controls, etc. If I add some text above it as is, the grid scrolls off the bottom of the frame.
