how many rows / performance?

On an average pc - how many rows can be displayed before scrolling the list gets jerky?

Of course it depends on the page and the columnsize and the browser. Firefox in general renders much faster.

I have had to implement the paging patch after 1500 rows. My data array contains more than 17000 rows, and with the paging patch the grid's working remains smooth
