Initial sort of data

Is there a way to display my data sorted on a particularly column the first time it is displayed in the grid?

Just call sort method. If you load data asynchronously, you should call sort after the data is ready (see http://www.activewidgets.com/messages/892-1.htm )

How would I go about doing that? Can you give me an example please?
