sorting still doesn't work

I just tried the example right above. If you set an item in the forth column empty, it still doesn't sort correctly. I don't know if I'm just missing something obvious, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to fix this problem and this example isn't helping. Any other suggestions from anyone?
