Everything breaks with DOCTYPE

If a page has the following on the first line and is viewed in IE6, the table totally breaks.

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">

Same with HTML 4 strict.

Please fix!

I just noticed there was a 2.0 beta out so I grabbed it. Now the table headings and alignment look OK with a DOCTYPE, however, it does not conform to the dimensions of the container DIV that it sits in. In fact, it acts as if it is floating on top of the container DIV that it is supposed to sit in.
