Tab space width?

I have started out with the tab example and it works fine. When I put in more tabs and fill them with text, the tabs overflow the alloted space and I have to scroll through them. However, the alloted space is only a fraction of the page/table/cell width in which it is contained. How can I change the alloted space for the Tabs? Thanks.

tabs.setSize(width,height)
