Mexlength in Cell

Hi,
I do not want to use inputTemplate because it created Input text field which will make the page slow when it is submitted.

I was trying with cell. The release 2.0.1 was supposed to have this programitically. But i cannot find an examle/doc for that. Is there some way to implement this easily?
