hide column, show column header

Is there a way to hide a specific column but keep the header in sight.

setColumnIndices will hide the column and column header alltogether...

Anyone with a workaround ? I need a js function to do this, so that I can include a small icon in the header, by clicking the icon, user can toggle between the state of show/hide that particular column, but the header should remain...
