Editing Data - complete example

Hi - this level of javascript is very new to me, wo please be patient(!).

I'm looking for a complete example of using the grid to:

1. display data from mysql tables
2. edit the data inthe grid
3. update the data back into the database

I've seen lots of discussion about all three parts in tiny snippets that make it very hard to follow.

Has anyone achieved this holy grail and if so would you be willing to share your wisdom in a complete example?
