Is activewidgets 508 compliant?

Hi,

One of the questions I keep getting asked when trying to use the activewidgets grid on our applications is if it is 508 compliant.

Is activewidgets 508 compliant? Will screen readers be able to get at the actions and state of the widget?

Any thoughts are appreciated. If activewidget grid is not 508 compliant, does anyone have thoughts on how to get it 508 compliant?

Thank you,

Having been through the 508 Compliance loop, it is almost impossible to have a web application meet the Section 1194.22 specs. Especially with a grid that most of the data is not 'visible' to a screen reader or to a human reader. In my opinion, the 508 Compliance was originally meant to apply to web pages that were semi-static and they never even thought about web applications.

If you want to see for yourself how close or how far your particular page is (even if it contains a grid), you can go to http://www.cynthiasays.com and have it checked out for compliance. It will tell you how much in compliance your page is for each of the parts of the 508 code.

I just ran one of the demo pages through Cynthia and nothing failed. This does not mean that it passes and is 508 compliant, but at least nothing failed.
