Timeline to be out of BETA?

Alex,

What is your current timeline to be out of BETA for V2?

I'm in the design phase of a new web project, and this product would be a strong fit. Our launch date is Feb. 2006 with support for only IE Browsers.

Realistically, do you see V2 being out of beta by then? If not, are IE components still under development? Just trying to get a handle on where V2 will be at by the time our development is completed. (And beta products are a tougher sell.)

Thanks,
Sam

Sam,

while I currently think that V2 will be released (or at least in RC) by February - the previous events show that I am still unable making reliable estimates.

The only feature still in development - editing/validation/kb focus, but this affects to some extent most of the components.

If I were you Sam, I would focus on the features that you are in need of and make a unit test for them. If they are all working, even in beta, I would not hold back on releasing your product. That is what we are doing. Once all the features that I need are working, I am going to release. Even if something gets broke in a later version, there is no law that says you have to update your product to the that version, wait until all your test scripts pass again, then upgrade at that time. Right now I am able to do most of what I need to do, I am just waiting on a couple more things to work and I'll be ready for release. The key is that you have to write good test scripts that test every function and property that you plan on using.

Thanks, Alex.

And Jim, practically I do agree with you. I personally have no problems going live with code (beta or not) that has been tested successfully. But from a consulting angle, you are asking your client to license and launch a product that is "unfinished" in a sense. And I have to leave it up to them to decide upon the risk vs. reward.

I like what I see thus far with V2. I think I'm going to recommend it.

Thanks for your help everyone.

Sam

Sam,

I've been using this SDK for a while now, and have had great success with it, I would recommend it to anyone within a heart beat.
